Eric Doroshow to speak at Immigration Forum

The Seaside Jewish Community (SJC) is presenting a special Forum on The Search for Social Justice in the Realm of Immigration Policy: Challenges to Finding Immigration Policies that are Humane, Just and Fair. This forum is being held in memory of Dorothy Brecher, an SJC member and an outspoken advocate for the voiceless, the needy, and the oppressed.

The Forum will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015, 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM, at the Virden Center (700 Pilottown Rd, Lewes, DE 19958). A buffet luncheon will be served. Registration is required (see below).

Hon. Joan Churchill, SJC member and Judge (retired), US Immigration Court, is the Forum Director. She observes that “immigration is a topic that is swirling around us! At the Dorothy Brecher Forum, we will examine the challenges to finding immigration policies that are humane, just and fair.”

Joan has organized this very timely educational event to provide information on the local, national and international aspects of immigration policies that affect the lives of people in Delaware, throughout the U.S., and in the world at large. She is approaching the topic from the perspective of what is the right thing to do to achieve social justice for all people – immigrants, refugees, and citizens and residents of receiving countries.

Following her opening presentation, Joan will moderate a lively discussion by a panel of hands-on experts. In addition to Eric Doroshow, the founding partner of Doroshow, Pasquale, Krawitz & Bhaya, newly elected to the Board of La Esperanza Latin American Community Center, other panelists include:

•             Claudia Porretti, Vice President of the Latin American Community Center from Latin American Community Center;

•             David Golemboski, Chair of Witness for Peace; and

•             Rebecca Kirzner, director from HIAS – the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.

There will be plenty of opportunity for audience participation. Dana Berman, an emissary from The Jewish Agency for Israel, and Jacki Chacona from Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, will also available. The Honorable Chris Coons (U.S. Senator – Delaware) has been invited to deliver the keynote address.

There is no charge to attend the Forum. It is funded solely by contributions from Seaside members and others. Additional contributions are welcome.
