What should I bring to a first probate meeting with the attorney?
1. If there is a will, bring the original since it needs to be filed with the Register of Wills. We can do that for you if you hire us.
2.Bring at least 2-3 certified copies of the death certificate. We need to file one with the will and may need others to transfer other assets to the beneficiaries.
3.The names and addresses of the closest heirs(spouse, children born to the deceased)
4.Listing of all assets, such as the bank statements, stock and bond list, car titles, copies of deeds to real property, information on life insurance and who is to receive it, etc. It isn't necessary to list all of the furniture of the decedent. We will explain how that is divided at our first meeting.
5. Information on the debts and expenses of the deceased such as a copy of the funeral bill, florist and luncheon expenses after the funeral and creditor statements, bills.
We will give you instructions on how other expenses will be handled at our first meeting. |
